TACA in Centennial Park
We went out yesterday to Centennial Park to see all the arts and crafts on display and enjoy the nice weather. The weekend was busy at the park with the Tennessee Association of Craft Artists show from Friday thru Sunday and allowing everyone the chance to see some amazing craftsmanship and talent on display while enjoying the park and the great weather.
Afterward we went to South Street for some ribs, a breakfast scramble and some chicken, shrimp and crawfish enchiladas. It was delicious in such a fun atmosphere with a really wonderful server.
Savarino Cucina in Hillsboro Village was the next place that we stopped for some Gelato and Italian Ice. It was all delicious and we enjoyed it while sitting under a nice tree and we laughed, talked and just enjoyed the entire experience.

Travis Tritt and Ray Charles
We went to see "Crossroads" from 2002 at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. This one featured Ray Charles and Travis Tritt and although they were both in fine form, I would have preferred to have seen Ray turned loose but Travis did shine through with his performances. Perhaps that was because he knew he couldn't give less than all he had since he was on the stage with a legend who lived up to the legend of his talent.
Very nice way to spend 40 minutes on a Sunday afternoon.

Grace Is Thy Name
We went to see the Nashville Ballet perform Swan Lake and this was an amazing night that provided inspiration in the way the dancers moved and the ability to tell such a moving story without words. This was my first ballet in many, many years and I'm so glad I went and experienced the beauty and talent that I witnessed. The way they moved to portray geese were amazing in the way they used their bodies to mimic the movements of geese. The way love shown through the entire production and showed how it can overcome so many things that get in its way.
If you get a chance to see Swan Lake, please do because you won't regret it. Make a whole evening and experience of it. Enjoy some champagne or wine, good food and the person who has your heart and let the music and dance take you to another world.

Kentucky Oaks
One down, one very big one to go for Todd Pletcher.
Horse racing’s leading trainer won Friday when 3-year-old filly Rags to Riches rolled to victory in the $500,000 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs, the first step in what Pletcher hopes is a historic weekend at the track.
“We’ll savor this one,” Pletcher said. “But tomorrow’s THE one.”

Suitcases
If you have traveled or stayed at a hotel recently than you may have noticed that many bags and suitcases all look very similar. Most are dark, if not black, and could easily be mistaken for your very own bag. We see lost or misplaced luggage all the time in the hospitality business and this is why it is so important to find a way to stand out. You can call it "making a statement" with your luggage or just simply not wanting to lose it or have someone else take it by mistake but there must be something about it that makes it different from all other bags.
Some people have big nametags, ribbon or string tied to the handle and some have pink or red luggage. I've seen animal prints, images of pets and cars and more just to stand out. This all works but you want to find something that you like but also is unique. Some people have matching clothes and luggage and I call that overkill but hey if it works, go for it.
Whatever style or color you choose you need to remember that when you travel via plane, train or bus that you must have proper identification on your luggage. This allows the handlers to know that it belongs to someone traveling with them and also insures that you will have it at your destination. Well, it may not insure it but you sure won't get it if you don't have i.d. on it.
Something else to think about is having your bag closed but not having it locked. This enables security to inspect it if need be without having to break your lock. A lock will be good to have for some places but not when you are traveling. If you do put a lock on it and they need or want to inspect it, they will break the lock, inspect your bag and you may not like that but it is legal.
Be aware of travel expectations, government travel restrictions and regulations, have your info on your bag and make sure it stands out from the other luggage. Most of all, just get out and see the country and get the experience of travel, it will do you good.

Some Travel Advice
Some things to be aware of when you travel....
1. Have your I.D. and/or passport
2. Have your money, credit card, or whatever you will be using to pay for things with, in a safe place while on the road.
3. At the hotel, they will ask for a method of payment. Be prepared and know how it is going to be paid. It might be you or your company paying but please be aware of how it is taken care of and don't be offended when they ask for a method of payment.
4. When you arrive at your destination, please have your confirmation ready. Before you begin to read it off as soon as the person at the desk, on the phone or wherever ask how you are doing....Tell them your name and they may not need it. The confirmation number is often a backup plan just in case they can't find your reservation.
5. At the hotel, the keycards are often sensitive to magnets, cellphones and other items that have any sort of magnetic field in them. They will erase the keys ability to work.
6. Before leaving home decide how you want to get around the city or place you are visiting. Will it be a rental car, taxi, shuttle service, by foot or what? Very important to plan this one out.
7. Be aware of the security levels of travel before you leave home. Check with the airlines, watch the news, check info from Transportation Sercurity Administration and know what you can and cannot take with you.
8. Be aware that a long distance phone call from a hotel room will cost you a fortune. Use a cell phone or calling card or something besides the phone in the room.
9. Call ahead and talk to a concierge or someone that can help with information that you can only get from a local person. They can often help much more than a travel agent or anyone else because they live there.
10. Feel free to ask for upgrades with the airlines, car rentals, hotel or anywhere. All they can say is no or yes.
11. Ask questions.....don't be afraid because it will only help you get the information that you will need.

Traveling at Christmas
We all have traveled during the Christmas season as both children and adults. As a child traveling to my grandparents quite often it was really special to be going knowing that Santa would be coming to visit and the whole trip was pure bliss with the anticipation. I knew most all of the family had traveled to be there as well and we would share stories, food, laughter, presents and the time together.
I can still smell the smokiness of the wood burning stove that sat in the living room. I can remember all of the kids running upstairs or outside to play. Our imaginations ran wild as we played and created our own worlds and playgrounds.
I remember not being able to go right to sleep because we all were whispering and laughing together. We had so much fun together and the magic of the season just made it that much better. I would finally fall asleep and than I would get up early and tiptoe downstairs to have breakfast with my grandparents. I remember how my grandmother would make my breakfast and make it so much fun to watch her. I would sit down next to my grandfather and talk to him. I was always amazed at how he would pour a cup of coffee and let it overflow and fill the saucer. He would then set the cup to the side and sip the coffee out of the saucer before turning back to his cup.
These are the things that I remember this time of year. I am glad that I have been able to experience all these magical moments of travel, family and friends. I'm thankful to have grown up when I did and thankful that I believed in the magic Christmas.
