Investors form $5.2M fund to help start-ups

Local angel investors are pooling their money through Nashville Capital Network to create a $5.2 million fund for entrepreneurs said to be the first of its kind in Tennessee.

Sid Chambless, executive director of Nashville Capital Network, says the fund allows the 50-plus investors in his group, who have individually invested $10 million in 13 early stage companies, to pool their money into a fund that will capitalize an additional 10 to 12 start-up businesses.

Sharing a Drink with Barack

This drink was enjoyed at a wonderful restaurant that I will tell you more about later. It was in Hamburg, Germany and the owner gave us each a drink of this before we left as a gift. It was sublime.

Barack ['buh-rutsk] is a type of Hungarian brandy (Pálinka) made of (or flavored with) apricots. The word barack is a collective term for both apricot (in Hungarian sárgabarack, lit. "yellow-peach") and peach (in Hungarian őszibarack, lit. "autumn-peach").

Sir Edmund Hillary has Died

Sir Edmund Hillary, the first climber to scale the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, has died aged 88.

He was the first man to climb the 8,850m (29,035ft) peak, with Tenzing Norgay, on 29 May 1953.

Returning to Everest's South Col camp, he famously greeted another member of the British expedition group with the words: "Well, George, we've knocked the bastard off."
