Belmont University and Vanderbilt University Partner with Zipcar to Bring Car Sharing to Nashville

Belmont University and Vanderbilt University today announced their partnership with Zipcar, the world's largest provider of cars on demand by the hour or day, to provide Zipcars on campus to university faculty, staff, and students as an environmentally friendly alternative to the costs and hassles of keeping a car on campus. The partnership marks Zipcar's entry into Nashville, bringing it to more than 50 cities, including operations in London, England and 27 North American states and provinces.

Beginning today, a total of seven self-service Zipcars -- five at Vanderbilt and two at Belmont -- will be available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The cars will be available to all staff and students aged 18+, with gas, maintenance, insurance and reserved parking included in low hourly and daily rates. Zipcar was selected as the Universities' car sharing partner based on its superior technology and operations, membership experience and track record of providing peer universities with a proven, cost effective, and environmentally-friendly transportation solution.

"At Vanderbilt, we are aware of the impact our students transportation choices have on our campus, the Nashville community, and the environment as a whole," said Lance Hale, manager of Vanderbilt's Office of Traffic & Parking. "By bringing car sharing to our campus, we can encourage students to leave their personally owned vehicles at home during the school year, while teaching them to make sustainable transportation choices that we hope will extend beyond their college years."

Bullet train may link Nashville and Atlanta

Tennessee and Georgia transportation officials are discussing the feasibility of constructing a bullet train linking Nashville and Atlanta.

The train would use magnets to propel the train up to speeds of 310 mph.

According to a feasibility study, the Nashville to Chattanooga leg can be constructed for $5 billion.

The route would run along Interstate 24 and have stations in both downtowns, the cities' airports and in Murfreesboro.

Both legs from Nashville to Chattanooga to Atlanta would take an estimated 10 years to build.

Free imaginary "flights" from JetBlue

Step up for JetBlue Airways Corp's trial of bag check and security systems at its new John F. Kennedy International Airport terminal, which is set to open in September.

New York-based JetBlue is looking for 1,000 of its frequent flyers to show up at JFK on August 23 to check bags given to them by the airline, go through security and wait at the assigned gate for their imaginary "flight."

In return, the airline is promising unspecified "giveaways," free parking and lunch.

Mike and Shawn Flarida were both #1 at the horse show

They had the same score and decided to flip a coin to see who would be the champ. Great moment at the show and a great family moment. They both had amazing rides.
