Celine Has Left The Colosseum

Celine Dion called it a wrap at Caesars Palace Saturday night, acknowledging on her final show that pregnancy and poor early reviews almost sank her titanic five-year engagement.

For her final show, Dion interspersed her usual numbers with emotion-filled monologues. Adoring fans cheered, stood and clapped all the way through.

After her last number, Dion invited husband Angelil and her son, Rene-Charles, now 7, on stage with her. Rene-Charles repeatedly reached down to grab rose petals that rained down on the final bow, giving them to her.

"Most of us have left our families behind to give ourselves every night," she said. "I can assure you it was worth it."

Since opening in March 2003, Dion's show, "A New Day..." grossed more than $400 million and was seen by nearly 3 million fans. Dion said one fan had seen her Las Vegas show more than 100 times.

Eiffel Tower and Big Ben for Sale?

The Eiffel Tower for Sale - $100,000

In 1925, Victor Lustig, a Czech con artist read in the newspaper that the Eiffel Tower needed a major repair, this gave him an idea of a scam that could potentially make him a millionaire, and thus he set sail for Paris.

Victor posted as “Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Mail and Telegraphs,” and organizes a face to face meeting with six or the largest scrap metal dealers in the country, the scam? He told the dealers that the French government ran out of money repairing the Eiffel Tower and decided to tear it down, those with the highest bid for the tower would salvage the metal parts from Eiffel Tower.

The plot thickens when Lustig pulled one of the men aside and told him that for a $100,000 bribe, he would award him the contract. The dealer went back to his office, got the money and gave it to Lustig, he then fled to Vienna.

Lustig manage to con a second person using the same trick again when he is in France, he was able to do so because the first victim did not report it to the police and when the second victim reported the scam, Lustig had already fled to America and live a rich and prosper life as a con artist.

The Grinch and Santa in Nashville

Let me start out this week's blog by saying, Jesus is the reason for the season. Amen! I haven't lost sight of that, but it doesn't diminish the fact that each year my six year-old daughter insists on dragging us to every Breakfast with Santa Nashville has to offer. Sometimes it's a restaurant, other times it's a church hosting the event. We have one on the books for every Saturday between now and Christmas if for no other reason than to figure out what she REALLY wants for Christmas above and beyond the three thousand things she's circled in the Toys R Us and Lillian Vernon catalogues.



I'm leaving out names in this blog to protect the innocent, but let me say that last weekend... Santa was officially hijacked. Anyone who's ever been to one of these will tell you that a breakfast with Santa is not really breakfast... with Santa. It usually involves a couple of pancakes, a sausage patty, some hot coffee, (if you're lucky) and a "brief" visit with Old Saint Nick. As it turns out at this particular Breakfast with Santa, the price of admission included everything but the actual visit... and I'm not joking. Oh how I wish that I were.

Our Nashville Symphony has been nominated for two Grammies

The Nashville Symphony has been nominated for two Grammys for its recording of works by American composer Joan Tower, which was conducted by Music Advisor Leonard Slatkin.
"Made in America" was nominated in the categories of Best Classical Album and Best Classical Contemporary Composition.



"It was an honor for the Nashville Symphony to release a CD of works by Joan Tower, who is by far one of the most exciting composers of our time," said Alan D. Valentine, President and CEO of the Nashville Symphony. "We are thrilled to be in the company of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, among others, with these two important Grammy nominations."

Cave Used to Create Munchies but now it Cures the Munchies

The pot cave is now the cheese cave.

Or will be in the future.

Roth Käse USA Ltd., a Wisconsin-based maker of European-style cheeses, offered the highest bid Saturday at a court-ordered auction. The company bid $285,000 for seven hilly acres and the improved cave below, which for several years was home to a clandestine marijuana farm.



The company's representative at the auction, Chuck Olson, offered little comment on the purchase after the auctioneer named him the winner.

"They'll make an announcement shortly," said Olson, who smiled widely after a half-hour bidding volley between him and another would-be buyer. Asked what the company intends to do with the property, he replied coyly, "Make money."

Unlike the previous owner's business, Olson said, the cave's new enterprise will be entirely legal "in a tasty way."

The auction was held in what had been one of the underground growing rooms in a previous marijuana operation. About 170 people, the majority of them spectators, came to watch the court-ordered sale unfold about 90 feet below ground.
