With this tour I want to show you the uniqueness of my city and show you all the things that will make you fall in love with it and understand what makes this city such a desirable place to visit and live.

Some of the culinary options include bar-b-que, sushi, pizza, a hot brown sandwich, sweet potato fries, chocolates, pralines and more.

Approx. 4 hours in length

Hastings Architecture draws up plans for new green division

Hastings Architecture Associates has designs to cash in on the green movement.

The Nashville-based company is creating GreenStudio to help companies incorporate environmentally sustainable building principals. The division also will help designers, engineers, builders and others implement green practices in all areas of their business.

“We’re not solely focused on architecture and design,” says Mike Leonard, who is heading up GreenStudio. “This division will allow us to go with the flow.”

Hastings, the fifth largest architecture firm in Nashville with about 35 employees, plans to start the GreenStudio with two employees, but hopes to expand.

Noah Liff Opera Center is the new home for the Nashville Opera

The Nashville Opera today unveiled the design plans for its new home in Sylvan Park, a year later than initially planned so the organization made sure it had more than enough money to start construction.

D.F. Chase Construction is scheduled to begin work on the $6-million Noah Liff Opera Center, named for the late Nashville businessman, on Monday. The goal is to be in the 26,000-square-foot center new next fall and become a new neighbor to Nashville Ballet and Climb Nashville on Redmon Street

The new Noah Liff Opera Center, 26,000 square feet of office, rehearsal and studio space that will serve as the nonprofit's new headquarters. Designed by Earl Swensson Associates of Nashville, the $6 million facility gives Tennessee's largest professional opera company something it has never had: a home of its own. Named for the late Noah Liff, one of the company's most steadfast and generous benefactors, the new center is at the rear of a converted warehouse, adjacent to Nashville Ballet, in a quiet corner of Sylvan Park.

"We needed a permanent headquarters," said Carol Penterman, executive director of Nashville Opera. "Our new space legitimizes us. We were the only arts organization in town that didn't have a permanent place. As long as you're renting, people think you are temporary."

A hotel in a quarry in China

This stunning concept designs inspired by the natural water and landscape features of the quarry captured the imagination of judges to quash competition from two other international firms. The quarry will provide protection from the weather, and reduce the energy needs of the hotel. The complex will contain restaurants, cafes, sport facilities, and will even include underwater public areas and guestrooms.



The innovative design of the 400-bed resort hotel stands two levels higher than the rock face of the 100 metre deep quarry and includes underwater public areas and guestrooms. It will incorporate conference facilities for up to 1,000 people, a banqueting centre, restaurants, cafés and sports facilities.
