Templeton Thompson Writes Song for Barbaro Documentary

The singer-songwriter and Nashville recording artist, Templeton
Thompson, and her musician husband, Sam Gay, have written a song for
the new documentary, Sculpting The Wind; Alexa King & The Making of
the Barbaro Memorial Statue, which chronicles artist Alexa King's
creation of this now famous statue that resides at Churchill Downs.

The song, I Love to Run, captures the essence of the famous Derby
winner who famously fought to overcome catastrophic injuries only to
ultimately lose his battle with laminitis.

Big Brown injured and has been retired

Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Big Brown has been retired after suffering an injury during training at Aqueduct on Monday morning.

The Rick Dutrow-trained colt, who also won the Haskell Invitational and Monmouth Stakes this summer, was expected to face 2007 Horse of the Year Curlin in the $5million Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita on October 25.

"Big Brown has been retired," Michael Iavarone, co-owner of IEAH Stables, told www.bloodhorse.com.

"He not only tore the bulb off his foot, but half the foot was torn off. We did everything we could to get to the Breeders' Cup. It's devastating and what makes it even worse is that he worked great."

It is a bitter end for Big Brown, who looked every inch a superstar when becoming the first horse in 79 years to win the Kentucky Derby from stall 20.

Race Horse Sculpture in Louisville

A sculpture of the race horse "Real Quiet" in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. He was the winner of the 1998 Kentucky Derby. Bob Baffert was his trainer.

We were in Louisville yesterday to go to the Suburban Fish Fry on 3rd Avenue and into downtown Louisville afterwards.
